Magic of Alaska Wildlife Photography Tour

Why is this photography experience so Magical ?

Year after year, participants have said it themselves - "This is just magical!"  So it stuck!  The Magic of Alaska -- prepare to have a truly magical experience while we explore the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska.  This unique region is often called "Alaska in Miniature" because every Alaska wildlife habitat type except Arctic tundra is represented here.  It boasts the juxtaposition of two biomes that combine to make for an abundance of diverse life.  This tour will provide any wildlife photographer with an experience of a lifetime!

  • We typically see 70-90 species of wildlife - including moose, bear, eagles, puffins, whales and more
  • Only 6 participants on each wonderfully private, one-of-a-kind, first class adventure
  • Journey by boat, plane, SUV, and if you choose - to capture dramatic images
  • This incredible experience is designed to be original and unlike any other photography tour offered in Alaska
  • You are never without support!  Lisa Langell and/or one of her personally trained photography guides will lead each daily excursion throughout the tour, offering tailored photographic guidance and support.  This is in addition to the boat captains, bear guides and other experts that will be supporting your experience.

Kenai River Wildlife Tour By Boat

Our private boats will take us on a beautiful excursions along the world famous Kenai River as we scout for moose, eagles, loons, mergansers, grebes, kingfishers, cranes, Arctic terns, Bonaparte's gulls, shorebirds and more. Capture great images while taking in stunning scenery and fresh Alaskan air.

Gulf Of Alaska Sea Life By Private Boat

The Gulf of Alaska tour offers a feast for your eyes of puffins, whales, glaciers and the Gulf of Alaska's rugged and stunning coast. This is a must-see experience!

Spend the day on our private and spacious boat. Here we will have the time and freedom to explore up to 130 miles of coastal Alaska in search of not just seascapes, but plenty of birds and wildlife.

Homer / Kachemak Bay by Land and Private Boat

Visit the beautiful and historic town of Homer, Alaska!

A stunningly scenic drive takes us to the infamous Homer, Alaska, down along the "Homer Spit" and to the docks where we will board our private boat for an excursion into Kachemak Bay.

Our guide and expert birder will take us throughout the bay to locations that are known for a variety of bird and wildlife species

Bear Fly-Out Adventure in a Float Plane

We will land in a stunning glacier-fed lake surrounded by pristine mountains, then transfer to small flat-bottomed boats to explore the shores for coastal brown bear, black bear, wildflowers, eagles, American Dipper, Northern Waterthrush, and more. Frame-filling images of bears is often possible so we will keep our cameras handy the entire time. This is an experience not-to-be-missed!

Skilak Lake & Kenai National Wildlife Refuge

This is something you truly have to see to believe. It is a place very few visitors to Alaska get to experience. By private boat, you will get to explore this stunning fresh-water, pristine 128-square-mile lake located in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge.

Skilak Lake is both glacier and spring-fed. It’s turquois blue waters offer beautiful landscape photography, compression landscapes, and abstract photography opportunities.

Eagle paradise at Eagle Beach

This beautiful, uncrowded beach is the ideal spot to capture images of Alaska's most iconic bird. It will not take long to have 1000s of images of these beloved birds as they do their acrobatics and feast on the fish from the waters nearby. If you're lucky, you'll also stumble across "wishing rocks," fossils and large pieces of raw coal that floated in from the floor of the inlet.

Land-Based Nature Viewing Excursions

Several areas around the peninsula offer opportunities to locate moose, caribou, birds, wildflowers, scenic vistas and more.  

We will explore these areas by SUV or on foot (short, easy walks) to locate beautiful photography subjects at various points throughout the tour.  This is a wonderful way to photograph the nature that surrounds us.

Meals

All meals are prepared daily by our on-site chef.  We provide breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages.  Breakfasts are made to be easy to grab in the morning as we often start very early.  Fresh coffee, tea and juice is provided.  No one has ever gone hungry here!

Your meals will include a variety of chicken, beef, local seafood (salmon, halibut, etc.), produce, and more.  We will also provide traditional fare suitable for picnicking during the day.  Enjoy beautiful riverside dining at night while we dine "al fresco" (weather permitting) on the patio while chatting and watching for local wildlife to pass us along the river.  It’s a slice of Alaskan heaven! 

Accommodating dietary restrictions:

We can typically accommodate most dietary restrictions (vegetarian, vegan, common allergies, etc.).  Please specify your restrictions when registering.  We will reach out to you for clarification if needed.

Lodging

We have an entire lodge to ourselves! It's the best way to stay.  The only people here will be the owners, the caterer, and ourselves.  It's 100% private.  The lodge offers spacious, modern cabins that allow both privacy and camaraderie.  Cabins offer our six participants the option of: 

  • Shared room (1):   A spacious bedroom for two participants (with a queen and twin bed, master bathroom)
  • Private room (4):  Private bedroom.  One bathroom shared between 2 participants. 
  • All cabins have spacious shared common areas (kitchen, living room, patio)

Wi-fi is provided and data/cell service is available, though may be limited at times based on weather and other factors.

A nature photographer and birder from the age of eight, Lisa is the founder of Langell Photography, Inc. and more recently, Focus Your Art, LLC. She began her own business in 2010 after long vibrant careers as a floral designer, educational psychologist, consultant, and in helping launch and manage two startups that grew into leading companies in the Ed-Tech space. Since then, she has earned numerous awards and has been published in Outdoor Photographer, Arizona Highways, Ranger Rick and more.
